January 12, 2010
Well, I must say I have never listened to Christmas music in January! The songs actually made me think of my grandmother. I wondered if time has been a factor for the marketing type songs like Rudolph, etc. The reason is I never EVER heard my grandmother sing those and she used to get mad that my brother and I sang them. She also said they weren't about Christmas!

Hi Lana, it's interesting that the Christmas music made you think of your grandmother. I guess that shows that every person brings their own life experience which shapes the way s/he interprets "curriculum" in many forms - including Christmas songs!
ReplyDeleteI agree with your point that marketing has likely played a large role in the development of more secular Christmas music, like Rudolph. It makes me wonder how much issues like marketing play a role in the curriculum and learning materials that are selected for use in schools (particularly materials that are not mandated for provincial use but are selected by individual divisions or schools, such as Roots of Empathy, Internet 101, Lion's Quest, etc).
See you tomorrow!
Lana here I am just making a comment
